CRANBERRY TWP, PA./HARMAR TWP, PA. -- On Friday night, Slippery Rock was seeking revenge for an earlier defeat at the hands of Robert Morris back in December. They got their revenge in thrilling fashion, downing Robert Morris, 5-4, in overtime. After facing a 3-1 deficit, Robert Morris rallied to tie the game at four. Of particular notice was the verbal sparring back and forth between the Colonials and the Pride. It was clear that those teams did not like one another. Even on the ice, things got heated. Slippery Rock had to kill off four penalties and two 4-0n-4's through the first two periods of the game. The Pride then met Pitt on Saturday night at Alpha Ice Complex to determine who would finish the weekend with a sweep of victories, with Pitt having defeated Mercyhurst, 3-2, also in overtime.
Alo back in December, the night after losing to Robert Morris, Slippery Rock was soundly defeated by Pitt, 5-2. Unfortunately, on Saturday night, revenge was not had, as they fell to Pitt for the second time this season, 7-2.
Pitt has now swept Robert Morris, West Virginia, Slippery Rock, and Mercyhurst. They have beaten Duquesne and IUP once each, and lost to John Carroll. They still have yet to play those three teams for the second time.
